Daily Crafting

Today is another one of those days where I have to cross things off my never-ending To Do list so I can feel a sense of accomplishment. Yesterday it was the dishes and dinner, and today it's spray painting our ghetto dining room chairs.

No, really, they are. Thanks to some abandoned chairs (and yes, they truly were) around campus, I started our chair collection. Then just last month when my mom and sister were visiting, we dropped by the surplus sale they have every few months and found some matching chairs. So now I have a set of 4. Hooray! But now to clean them up and bring them out of 1978 (that's what the tag on the bottom said).

Here's a bit of a product placement (non-sponsored, shucks), but I have to say that Rustoleum brand spray paint is the best in my opinion. Trust me, I've used my fair share of spray paint being an industrial designer. Whether it's been sprayed on polystyrene, bondo encrusted foam, metal, wood, or whatever random material, Rustoleum beats Krylon hands down. The stuff I'm using on these metal chair frames is the Hammered line that leaves a really neat finish and covers up any dinks that may be left behind from years of lovin'. It also doesn't require primer, which gives it an A+ in my book.

Next step in finishing the chairs
is finding the right fabric. I had used a nice geometric pattern on my first 2 chairs, but it was just a lightweight cotton. It's received its wear-and-tear for the past 4 years, especially with the addition of our daughter. I'm looking for some nice heavy-duty upholstery/home decor fabric. Hubby says to stay neutral tones (when I wanted to get some red), but that's pretty much the only restriction. After finding fabric, I get to let loose with the flathead screwdriver to pull up all the nasty staples from the old upholstery. I sure wish I had the staple pullers we used at the Prop Shop....

So that's the ordinary day stuff. Winzy Design is doing great. We attended our first Farmer's Market of the summer on June 2nd in Provo. I loved walking around (when I could) to see what other people were selling. We handed out tons of cards, and we've heard back from a few people. Our next appearance at a market will be on July 12th at the Pleasant Grove Promenade. Pretty exciting!

We also got our PayPal Here reader, but unfortunately, it doesn't work with my brand of smartphone yet. It works with our iPod Touch, but it's WiFi only, which restricts us using it at most farmer's markets. We really want to provide the ease of taking credit and debit cards, but until they make it work with the Samsung Exhibit, then we can't. :(

Next event of the day is finishing backing up my ancient (in technology years) computer, then go grocery shopping.
